I really love dinosaurs. Which makes Drumheller, AB about the most perfect weekend road trip there is. Add in sleeping in a teepee and a little detour to Banff for some mountain air and horseback riding? Weekends don't get better than this. Well, riding a dinosaur would have made it better, but as you can see, it's expressly forbidden.
So I made it to the Big Apple and it was glorious! I got to hangout next to super famous monuments, walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, party at the Waldorf, meet my editor, celebrate my friend's birthday in Greenwich Village, and meet so many AMAZING women at the RWA15 conference. I also got food poisoning. Checks and balances, people. It's all about checks and balances.
Today I'm kicking it like an old-school Britney song and feeling like a boss.
I PB'd in snatch, clean & jerk, back squat and front squat during my Olympic Lifting session this week! <insert raunchy jokes about the off-colour nature of weightlifting terms here>
Basically, I'm feeling strong today, and I have to be honest, it feels pretty damn good.
I think sometimes, as women, we don't celebrate our strength enough. And I don't just mean lifting heavy things. So today, I urge you to pat yourself on the back for whatever you've done lately that proves you're strong and awesome. Take a moment to celebrate your mental or physical prowess. Strength shows itself in a lot of different ways--enduring, overcoming, persevering and being a little bit better than you were yesterday.
And I'd love to hear what makes you strong and proud in the comments, so I can celebrate with you.
Inagural posts are the worst.
Except for the fact this post's very existence is predicated upon the fruition of my second grade dream of being a published author (Kiss and Makeup, pictured above, hits stores September 15...the realization still makes me giddy. Seriously. I'm all goofy grins and happy dances. It's ridiculous.) there's really nothing redeeming about them at all.
There's a lot of pressure to say something awesome--to be pithy and welcoming, to be witty and memorable. It's enough to give a girl an ulcer. So instead, I'm just gonna say thanks.
Thanks for taking a second and checking out my site. I hope you like what I do. I hope you'll be back. I've got big things planned, and I promise that I'll do my best to say something awesome at least once in awhile, if only by accident. (Odds are extremely good that it will be by accident.)
*end of sincerity rant*
The first thing you should know about me is that most of the time, I tend to dwell in the land of snark and sarcasm. It's a little jaded here, but there are still happily ever afters aplenty. I just like my romantic heroes with enough edge that they're able to hold their own in a battle of wits and one-liners. If you do too, then I think we're going to get along just fine.
